Technical evaluation

The carriage (car+trailer):
Weight with full load: 2600 kg
Max velocity on plane road with full load: 100 km/h

Wood consumption and travel distance:
Trveled distance: 5420 km
Consumed wood: 6650 liter
Consumption / 10 km: 12,26 liter / 10 km

Engine compression test:
The engine was a little bit warmer this time, which most likely resulted in that the compression increased marginal. It doesn’t seem like the gas has affected the engine in a negative way tough, concerning the seal of the piston rings and the valves.

Cylinder Test 1 before trip Test 2 before trip Test 1 after trip Test 2 after trip
1 13,3 13,2 13,3 13,6
2 12,5 12,9 12,9 12,9
3 12,2 12,6 12,4 12,3
4 13,0 13,0 13,2 13,2

Sparkplugs:
No notice of damage. They have a small white layer which witnesses about high combustion temperature.

Akoustic control:
One valve is ticking softly. Unable to estimate if it is a result of the gas.

Fine filter:
The filter had to be repaired once on the trip. This was an old wearing that depended on a construction fault, which admitted the filter to move freely in the canister and hit the canister’s walls. When the filter hit the walls, some screws connecting the gas intake pipe, damaged it.

The gas pipes:
There is a 3 mm layer of soot mass in the pipe from the fine filter. The layer decreased in the pipe from the top of the roof to the cooler.

Cooler and pipes:
In the lower parts of the cooler, there was some kind of cream. It reminded of vaseline. On picture 2, you can see the cream on the bearings for the plug.

Gas mixer:
The gas mixer was dry and had a 0,5 mm thick layer of soot in the gas pipe. The throttle valve had a 2 mm layer.

Summary:
The system has been working really well. There have been few problems with wood hangings, high power from the engine and a decent wood consumption. The wood gas system has also been able to produce gas from wood with a little bit moist.

The total distance of 6500 km with the test rides included, doesn’t seam to have affected the engine negative.

Most power from the engine is at 2200 rpm – 2800 rpm. The gas producer delivers the best gas when it has produced much gas for a longer time. A shorter dip in the gas outtake requires that the producer get loaded a somewhat longer time before it can deliver the best gas agine.
